Introducing Bart & Baker

"We love reinvention, using elements that already exist like vintage music, performance styles and costume so we are able to please or uncover a love of swing with both vintage fans and modern kids. We’ve always been huge fans of London and it’s cutting edge club culture so to be accepted and given such support from so many people has just amazed us. We work with electro swing clubs, vintage themed burlesque clubs, the best of your festivals and it’s thanks to all our UK fans and collaborators for making our journey so exciting so far.” Bart

We are pleased to announce that our friends Bart & Baker have included our collaboration with them on their debut album 'Introducing Bart & Baker.'  The track 'Bee Zoo' is a little moment of kitsch that we hope fits in perfectly with their signature electro swing tunes.

If you're in London and fancy checking out the cut of their jib, you can see them at The Electro Swing Club at Book Club on Sat 20th April. With lots of other DJ talent and some live performances, this is an internationally famous club night with a unique fusion of Paris/London Swing.

Those closer to Paris will find that Bart&Baker have their own monthly residency at the world-famed Parisian club La Machine du MOULIN ROUGE. See more about the vintage loving duo on their website.

barn of dreams

Gavin and I recently spent the day in Surrey with our band-mate Nick Rye, recording drums for London in Puddles, the last track to go on our album. We were lucky enough to be given the use of an incredible (oh-so-English) converted barn to record in, surrounded by an explosion of Autumn colours in the trees and with crisp sunlight streaming through the roof lights.

I only grabbed a few snaps on the day but I've been meaning to share them with you.

The barn was huge and separated into a few different spaces (including its own squash court that we were able to place a mic in!) so it had the perfect acoustics for the sound we wanted.

It even had a sauna and jacuzzi area, not that we had time to put those to use that day (much to my chagrin!).

Thanks to Nick for his time and musicality, and to Gail and Jonny for generously loaning us their space for the day.

London in Puddles - an exhibition.

“Like a vision from another world, a view of a parallel universe. Superb pictures of London reflected through puddles open up new perspectives.”
– The Mirror

“Amazing images which offer a new perspective on life in London”
– Evening Standard

“This new series of images exhibit a heightened sense of uninhibited love for one's city. There's something about seeing a town through the blurry ripples of a splash of water on the ground that makes it seem all at once magical, haunting, and beautiful. Through the cracks in the streets an image of London's greatest architectural attractions emerge.”
– MyModernMet.com

Sweet Tooth wish to cordially invite you to the launch of London in Puddles - an exhibition of Gavin's evocative photographic series of iconic landmarks and city scenes:

We will not only be unveiling the limited edition prints but also a new song inspired by our city, performed in a short acoustic live set.

We'd love to see you there if you're in London next week!

Kisses,

Fleurtini

oh darlin'

I've not posted about our new video for a while - humble apologies to those looking forward to seeing it. Exciting things are afoot in the land of Sweet Tooth, so we'll have to keep our pretty cards close to our chest for just a little while longer...

In the meantime, I want to cheekily pique your interest ("a tease? Who... me?") by sharing with you the newest work by Maximilla (one half of the Belles who filmed 'Venus').

This "Darlin'" short fashion film, made in collaboration with Lula Magazine's Leith Clark (as if you couldn't tell), showcases Orla Kiely's Spring 2013 collection, which Kiely states was inspired by "Palm Springs, Slim Aarons, summer resorts from the 1960s, and the pool culture of that time period."

It makes me wish that the briefest bliss of an 'Indian Summer' we just enjoyed in London could be endless. I adore the film's dreamy, sun-lit playfulness. The music by Erika Spring of Au Revoir Simone is perfect. And if the whole collection could find its way into my wardrobe sometime soon, I'd be most happy indeed.

beeeeezoooo...

We have something a little different to share with you today - a remix competition in conjunction with French music site Electrocorp.

It's for our new collaboration with Parisian dandies Bart&Baker, who have focussed their electro-swing DJ/production skills on a cute track we wrote especially for them.

It's called 'Bee Zoo,' it's kitch as hell, and we can't wait to hear what clever twists can be found by other producers...

Full details of how to enter can be read here.

Closing on August 15th, the jury (Electrocorp, Bart&Baker and ourselves) will select the best remixes to post online through Electrocorp's SoundCloud until early September. The three most played, favorited and commented (as a combination of the three) will be include in the EP release and awarded with 150 euros for their work.

Bisous :-)

black is the colour of my true love's hair...

Whilst we wait (impatiently!) for the 'Venus in Hollywood' video's final edits, Gavin and I thought we might have a little fun and do some filming ourselves.

Partially as a gift to our friend Nico, for whom this is one of her favourite songs. And partially for Gavin to try out some of his new film-making skills (another string in his creative bow).

This new clip is the result! Sweet Tooth perform the traditional song, 'Black Is The Colour Of My True Love's Hair,' live in our studio. One take, no headphones, spill and all... Vocals by Fleurtini. All other instruments and music production by Gavin Hammond (bass and trumpet were overdubbed immediately after in one take).

Filmed (live), edited and produced by Gavin Hammond.

For Nico.

(PS. The song itself is a celtic traditional which has been covered by luminaries such as Nina Simone, Joan Baez, Esther Ofarim and Christy Moore.  We love how it mystically takes on such different qualities depending on the artist singing it, so we've tried to put our own 'Sweet Tooth' stamp on it with this recording. We've decided to give the track away for free as a reward to those who join our mailing list. Do this via this link, or by entering your email address in the text box in the side-bar -->)

london in puddles

You may already be familiar with Gavin's beautifully moody and evocative photography as it's been featured here on our site before.

The London Eye

If not, I'd like to remedy that situation right now, in light of the fact that it would be remiss for our fans not to know about it considering he's received coverage in many of the UK's national press this week!

His 'London in Puddles' lomography series has been featured in Stylist magazineThe Telegraph, The Metro, The Daily Mail, The Evening Standard, and The Mirror,  no doubt inspired by the rainy weather we endured over the Queen's Diamond Jubilee holiday (which was wonderful, but VERY wet).

He told the papers: "I stumbled upon my first puddles image by accident. My bicycle had been stolen so I was walking into town along the South Bank for once rather than pedalling past it in a hurry. It began to rain as I approached the London Eye and a large flock of tourists were blocking my way. I hate to be in a crowd so I stared at my feet as I waited for them to pass. And lo! a beautiful reflection of one of the gondolas emerged from a puddle, like a vision from another world, a view of a parallel universe."

You can see his entire London set here on his Flickr page, (please get in touch with us via or contact page if you'd like to purchase prints).

Never one to rest on his laurels, Gavin (and film editor Phil G) also just produced this audio/visual clip showcasing his other sets of snaps, alongside a remix of our track 'At Your Leisure,' done by Berlin-based producer and DJ, Deep Child

We hope you enjoy its dark and mellow loveliness...
